2015 CAMPAIGN: I LOVE YOU LA
Featuring Jack Huston at the Iconic Oscar Niemeyer Boyd House
Oliver Peoples continuously draws inspiration from the distinctive culture of Los Angeles, iconic Hollywood tradition, and the beauty of great design, art and architecture. The collections of the 2015 season embody the unique style of the city through a balanced mixture of sophistication and bohemian glamour. The beautiful photographs and accompanying short film, “I Love You LA,” are shot and directed by fashion veteran and brand collaborator Lisa Eisner. The images capture a stylish couple that personifies the inspiration of the frames and reflects the same simplicity of design and refinement. The natural chemistry between the two characters creates casual yet chic moments that evoke the brand aesthetic. The star of the campaign, Jack Huston, is an actor of growing prominence, while also being the grandson of John Huston, one of the most revered Hollywood directors of all time. His effortless style perfectly embodies the authentic lifestyle of the brand.
The backdrop of the campaign, the Boyd house, a Los Angeles historical landmark designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer in 1964; it is his only residential home in North America. The minimalist, indoor-outdoor property is built in a T-shape, with high ceilings in the public spaces and low in the private. The glass and steel structure is capped by a flat roof with a row of tall, narrow exposed rafters that create a serrated pattern. The property boasts 14-foot glass walls in the main living area, a split level loft space, and one of the most esteemed collections of furniture in the world, with such designers as Jean Prouvé, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Periand. The garden embodies the essence of Brazilian landscape, with palms and ferns populating the yards, paved with curved travertine paths that wind between ink-drop shapes. A swimming pool at the rear of the property overlooks panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains and Riviera Country Club fairways. The design and harmony between the indoor and outdoor spaces of the living sculpture of the property make it an enduring example of mid-century design at its best. The house was an ideal place to shoot the campaign, as much of our inspiration derives from Los Angeles culture and the overall southern California lifestyle.
Accompanying the short film is the song “Lavender” by Grammy award winner Ray LaMontagne, from his new album Supernova. The viewer can practically see the lyrics come to life with lines in particular like ‘free to play’ and ‘both of us without a care,’ as the woman, played by Joanna Halpin, drifts peacefully in the pool, while Jack’s character aimlessly works his toy drone. Ray describes the song as: “Playing hide and seek… the innocence of finding some secret place in the woods that only you knew about, that you kept all to yourself and never told the grown-ups.”
